About the Teen Autism/Asperger’s Social Group
Being alone is a common experience for people on the autism spectrum. Even with the increase in diagnosed cases of Autism Spectrum Disorders in the United States, now at 1 in 110, people with autism often feel isolated in the non-autistic world that surrounds them.
People with autism have a common neurology and many shared experiences, and it is often more comfortable for them to communicate with other people with autism. This social group is a place where teens and young adults on the autism spectrum can describe their experiences, share their ideas, and practice social skills in a relaxed and supportive environment.
Hearing other group members talk about their lives helps members learn that they are not alone. Many people in the group have had similar experiences as a result of being on the autism spectrum. Group members can learn from each other by listening to each other’s stories and asking questions about topics they are interested in.
Because many people on the autism spectrum find social gatherings with non-autistics stressful, they tend to spend their time alone, limiting their social opportunities. This social group provides safe a place where young people on the autism spectrum can gather, make friends, and build their own social networks.
Come join us and be part of the group. We look forward to seeing you!
